Add the tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds.
Prepare the glass by rubbing the lime wedge along the outer edge of the rim, then dipping the rim into the salt to coat it.
Strain the drink into the prepared glass.
Add the optional lime wedge garnish to the rim.
